6/17/2010 - DCD-owned September Films wins MTV primetime special
|
Following on its recent ratings success in the US, DCD Media-owned September Films has been commissioned by US Cable TV network MTV to produce a high profile documentary exploring the burning issue of teenage pregnancy.
The one-hour special is due to air primetime with MTV’s biggest show ’16 and Pregnant’ this summer and is produced out of September Films’ London offices.
Baby High (1x60’) explores one of today’s most debated family issues - teenage pregnancy. The film will go behind these shocking statistics and sensational headlines to discover what it is really like to be a pregnant teen or teenage mom while remaining in school, focusing on the real-life drama that four girls face as they learn how to raise their children while struggling to grow up themselves.
According to the US National Center for Education Statistics, the dropout rate for high school mothers is a staggering 60%, compared to just 5.6% for those without children.
Sheldon Lazarus, Executive Producer for DCD-owned September Films, commented: “We are delighted to be working with MTV on such a high profile programme. Baby High is not intended to legitimize teen pregnancy in any way; but rather will show how one community has come together to address the issue of teen pregnancy by offering a second chance to teens who otherwise might sacrifice their education entirely.”
The new order comes as three major September Films series are simultaneously airing on US cable networks, including Mall Cops: Mall of America currently transmitting on TLC; Billy The Exterminator, currently in its second top rated season on A&E; and a new season of the record breaking series Bridezillas whose one-hour launch special delivered its best premiere audience ever to WEtv earlier this month.
David Green, CEO of DCD Media added: “This new commission echoes the success of our three latest series for major US cable networks and reflects our growing production footprint and presence stateside”.
Baby High was commissioned by Lauren Dolgen, SVP, Series development, MTV Networks. It was executive produced by Sheldon Lazarus and Morgan J. Freeman for DCD-owned September Films. |
