All Aboard ‘The World’s Most Famous Train’

All Aboard ‘The World’s Most Famous Train’

An exclusive insight into one of the world’s most extravagant train journeys

In a one off exclusive, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is opening its carriage doors to Channel 4, in a brand-new 1 x 60’ documentary produced by Rize USA (a DCD Media company). Commissioned by Channel 4’s Lucy Leveugle, ‘The World’s Most Famous Train’ will examine the relevance of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express in a time where conventional travel is dwindling.

Known as one of the world’s most luxurious and romantic train journeys, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is marketed as the ultimate luxury experience. The train is comprised of 17 unique 1920’s carriages, all of which were obtained from one of the many famous pioneering trains of that era. Having carried an abundance of elite individuals, across Italy, Switzerland, and Turkey for well over a century, each carriage contains its own unique history, from dramatic incidents, to royal scandals alike.

From champagne bars, and five-star gastronomy, to manually stoked fires, damask sheets, and a bed turn around each night, passengers experience firsthand the historical voyage which has set the scene for thousands of stories across time. But with no Wi-Fi, or showers, and in a world of budget airlines, and 2 hour long flights, the film will explore why passengers are still willing to indulge in this 36 hour journey across Europe.

Commissioner Lucy Leveugle says “The World’s Most Famous Train is a privileged look at an iconic travel institution. Whilst luxuriating in the historical detail and with fantastic access to customers and staff, the film will also allow us to examine how it can fare in the modern day when time is money.”

According to Creative Director of Rize USA, Sheldon Lazarus, “the VSOE is iconic for its luxury, its extravagance, and we’ll see plenty of it in the 60 minutes. Putting extravagance aside, the documentary will give viewers a behind-the-scenes insight into all that it takes to keep the world’s most famous train on track”.

He also adds that “coming off the back of several other high profile subjects, such as the Billion Pound Hotel, and two series of Liberty of London, this is another fresh and exciting commission for Rize USA, and we are thrilled to be making this for Channel 4”.
